The Pirasaurs are a pirate crew of dinosaurs in search of treasure and up for a little adventure along the way! Meet the gang, led by Captain Rex, and learn the ropes from the perspective the newest recruit who aims to be a full-fledged member of the crew. A double-crossing Pirasaur leads them into a trap in their search for treasure. The newest, smallest Pirasaur finds gets an opportunity to save the day and earn his rank!
Busy moms (and dads), this is a funny and brightly illustrated addition to your kid-lit library. I met the author and picked up this book while at a writer’s conference in Richmond, Virginia, and it has been a top selection for bedtime book reading more nights than not for the last month.
The sing-song nature of the story lends to easy reading and a catchy rhythm. The swash-buckling crew of Pirasaurs are an entertaining lot, especially through the eyes of the newest, smallest “mate.” Readers join the crew on an adventure for buried treasure, but learn they’ve been deceived and into a trap. The narrator figures out a solution, but must assert himself to stop a duel between gangs and show them all the power of teamwork. A lesson is learned and the rewards are grand!
The illustrations are cheery and colorful, bringing this rag-tag gang to life. They play a significant role in revealing the betrayal and perpetrator to the reader. Each page has vivid scenes that enhance the book and add to the enjoyment of reading it.

Have you read Pirasaurs! or any other Josh Funk book? What was your favorite part?
I’m always on the lookout for new books to add to the “to-read-and-review” shelf, especially children’s books by indie or newly published authors. If you have any to recommend, please share in the comments and many thanks!
