DNF and Low Rating Policy

Before creating The Reading Corner and adding a book review section of the blog, I had a couple of decisions to make. How would I handle books I flat out did not like, or did not finish? Do I leave a 1 or 2-star review? Should I suffer my way through a book that’s not for me?

The first part was easy. No, I will not be posting 1 or 2-star reviews. One of the life lessons I want to instill in my kids by practicing myself is the old saying: If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all. (Mind you, I said practicing because I know I don’t always get it right!) I’m not a paid reviewer for NYT or Kirkus. Maybe the books is not for me. Or maybe it’s not good quality. Whatever the reason, I don’t gain anything by putting down someone else’s hard work. At the end of the day, I’m a busy mom. I want to share good quality books that I loved, or at least liked and think offered something of value in reading it, for other busy mom’s to enjoy.

The second question took a little longer to settle, but I again decided on no. That doesn’t at all fit with the theme of my book reviews. Instead, I will maintain a “DNF” list.

Thanks for visiting! I hope you enjoy the reviews. 🙂
