Writer Meme Monday: The Truth About Writing

This week I’m pleased to have dusted off my writer and editor hats and have worn them both!

Not for my novel-length WIP, though.

I participated in a one-hour challenge with my writing group and came up with a story that needs some finesse and a better ending. In general the feedback it received is it has good tension and action but was incomplete. (I totally agree!)

I’ve been reading a novella for a friend from the same writing group, which is inspiring me to get back into my own WIP.

Thank goodness. I’d like to get past #2 (editing does kind of suck) to #3 (again) and start getting it towards the market.

  1. Also have my editing hat on with a WIP that is being much more troublesome than normal. A lot of rewriting. Not sure if that’s a good thing, a bad thing, or neither.

Congrats on getting back into it. It’s easy to fall off and sometimes hard to get back on.

  2. I’m in an editor, reviewer, writer place too! Our writing class is workshopping right now, so every week I have two stories of classmates to review. Then I’m trying to edit my story which has been going NOWHERE. I keep editing and rewriting and the words move around but it doesn’t get better. My husband and mom have read it so many times they can’t help either. So I got brave and asked someone in my writing class to review my story and she was SO HELPFUL. I yearn for writing friends who can help me with my work. My current mantra, “please let our writing class turn into a writing group.” Then, my teacher of my class keeps giving us fun exercise, some of which have future potential. It’s a good writing time for me, and sounds like for you too! Yay!

  3. I so fall into #4! It’s so hard for me to sit down and get work done, but maybe tomorrow…I honestly don’t mind editing though. It’s kinda nice to know the WIP doesn’t suck as much as it did. 😉 good luck with your short story.
