I rotate the mug once, twice, then back to its original position. Handle perpendicular to the table edge.

Steep the tea bag. Then again.

The entrance reflects in the mirror along the back wall. Customers sit reading papers, chatting quietly or staring at their own steaming brews.

A figure moves past the stained glass pane.

I sit up straighter. Is it?…

No. Brown hair.

My gaze falls back to my tea.

“Lucas?”

My head snaps up. She stands next to me, blonde ponytail and a nervous smile.

The chair scrapes the floor when I stand. “Regina. Pleased to meet you.”

This is my 100-word flash fiction contribution to Friday Fictioneers, hosted by the Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. It’s a weekly flash fiction challenge beginning with a photo prompt and a 100-word limit to craft a complete story. Check it out and join the fun!

Happy New Year and happy trails!
